You know the benefits of introducing your child to music, and you would like to jump-start your little one’s musical journey right away. But here’s the big question: how?
Do you begin with vocal classes? Or do you add an instrument? Which one should it be? Should they learn Indian music or take on what they prefer? What is their attention span like? Will they actually enjoy the classes? And how do you introduce a wide variety of musical styles that they can choose from?
We get it. And we’ve spoken to many SaPa parents about their concerns. So, here are some things to keep in mind before you start looking for a class:

1 – There is no “right” kind of music
The best kind of music is what your child enjoys. Learning classical music has its unique set of benefits; so does learning pop. Don’t worry about making the “perfect” choice; just ensure it’s something the child loves learning.
2 – Introducing different musical disciplines is a good thing
Children benefit from exploring multiple different artistic paths. It helps them think critically and draw parallels between the different things they learn. And finally, if they want to focus on one specific goal, they have truly made an informed choice based on experience. So, if you are able to give your child access to many different musical disciplines, they will be happier for it.
3 – Children should enjoy a fun learning environment
Whether your child decides to be a vocalist or a multi-instrumentalist, they should know one thing: it is possible to work sincerely while having a good time. Both parents and educators can make the learning process fun, while giving children a structured environment.
In the last few months, SaPa’s team of curriculum developers and musicians spoke to many parents to put together a sampler music course for kids. Here’s your chance to introduce children to four disciplines across Indian and Western music (vocal and instrumental) before they make an informed choice going forward.
